I think it all started around Christmas 1988, when I sold a lot of 'Soul to Soul' t-shirts through my shop 'Identity', in Afflecks Palace, Manchester. We were out one night, possibly at one of the Hacienda 'Hot' nights - all I am really sure about is that it was a Wednesday!
Tina Street, who was the manager of Identity and still a great pal, said "Leo, we need to come up with a t-shirt on a northern tip, rather than selling all these London based t-shirts" - no disrespect to 'Soul to Soul' or London!
I got home and, not being able to sleep, I had a flash of Catholic guilt and for some strange reason I wrote the following:
'AND ON THE SIXTH DAY GOD CREATED MANchester'
This is a wonderful city and I feel so privileged to be part of it.
